Summary: UnboundLocalError.

Initial Comment:
I compiled and installed python1.6 in my Debian Linux
2.14 without any errors but when I tried to run python
I got the following message:

Built-in exception class not found: UnboundLocalError.
 Library mismatch?
Fatal Python error: Standard exceptions could not be
initialized.

Sounds like you have an older Python version on your
system.  Try to get rid of that.  Also check $PYTHONPATH.

Closing this report, as it's not a bug in Python, but rather
an installation problem.

(Why are you using Python 1.6?)
