Category: Installation
Group: Python 2.2
Status: Open
Resolution: None
Priority: 5

Summary: Installation fails on module-xmllib.html

Initial Comment:
On NT 4.0 SP6 installation of Python 2.2b2 hangs with
the following message:

"Copying Python Documentation (HTML);
F:\Python22\Doc\lib\module-xmllib.html

Upon further investigation it appears the installation
program is getting hung up while it creates an
infinite length .tmp file (multiple Gb) that consumes
all available disk space on the installation drive.

The installation file Python-2.2b2.exe has a file
length of 7,008,533 bytes.

I've now tried to install both versions 2.1 and 2.2b2 -
both installations have failed for different reasons.

Please get the Windows installations fixed!

I just generated the md5 sum on Python-2.2b2.exe. It is
also coming back bad. I'll have to try downloading again.

Thanks,
Barry Kumnick

Hi Tim,

I have reproduced the same problem on a physically distinct
machine per your suggestion.

The first machine is an NT4 Enterprise Server Dual
Processor Dual Boot PIII box with SP6.

The second machine is an NT4 Enterprise Server Single
Processor Dual Boot PIII box with SP5.

The installations failed on both machines with the symptoms
noted in my previous post.

Can you advise me how to verify the md5sum on the download
file? I downloaded the md5sum.exe program Martin suggested
in my other bug report, but it returns a message saying:

md5sum: Python-2.2b2.exe: no properly formated MD5 checksum
lines found.

Also, I don't have the md5sum.py module. I might be able to
use that from the command line if you could tell me where
to download it.

Thanks,
Barry Kumnick

Can you please verify the md5sum of this file as well?

See comment on your bug 487317: you're unique here too.
Can you reproduce on a physically distinct machine?
