Category: Extension Modules
Group: Python 2.1.1
Status: Open
Resolution: None
Priority: 5
Submitted By: Richard Jones (richard)
Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody)
Summary: setup.py assumes existence of /usr/local

Initial Comment:
/usr/local doesn't exist on Max OS X, so the lines in
setup.py at the start of detect_modules should
propbably have:

if os.path.isdir('/usr/local/lib') and
'/usr/local/lib' not in self.compilier.library_dirs:

etc.

Please give as much detail as possible. What is the exact
text of the warning message? Can you guess what program is
generating it?

When I add a non-existing directory in my copy of
setup.py, no disturbing warnings are produced.

It generates a warning, several lines long, for each
compile command. Doesn't break, just makes the compile
more verbose than necessary :)

Why is that a problem? What happens with the current code?
