The Demo/extend directory contains demo files which 
depend on the presence of Misc/Makefile.pre.in, which 
is missing from the distribution.

In this modified form (embedding docs talk about
Makefile.pre.in), this is a duplicate of #497695.

In case it's not already known: there are also lots of docs 
in the extending/embedding section which depend on that 
file.

This was reported before, and has been fixed in CVS already.

The Demo/extend directory is obsolete. Use the distutils
package; docs are part of the standard 2.2 documentation
bundle.
