Summary: Need an easy way to check the version

Initial Comment:
With MacPython's Package Manager being able to install the full HTML
documentation on the users' machine it would be nice if it could
check the version of the documentation. Something like a version.txt
(or __version__.py?) should do the trick.

As there are no follow-ups, I assume my proposal is
sufficient, so I'm closing this report as works-for-me.

Looking for the string <strong>Release in lib.html is not
good enough?

If so, I could support adding a META tag into lib.html. I'm
-1 for an additional file.
