Summary: SCO_SV: many modules cannot be imported
Initial Comment:
Trying to execute the makefile for Python 2.3.1 and 2.3.
2c on an SCO-box results in a lot of warnings like:
*** WARNING: importing extension "struct" failed with
exceptions.AttributeError:
'module' object has no attribute 'load_dynamic'
This results in not being able to import the struct (and
many others) module in the Python interpreter:
Python 2.3.2c1 (#7, Oct 1 2003, 12:08:43) [C] on
sco_sv3
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more
information.
>>> import struct
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?
ImportError: No module named struct
See the attached make.out file, which includes the
generated makefile for my system, followed by the output
sent to stdout.
Installing Python 2.2.3 went almost flawless.

I uploaded both the config.log and the pyconfig.h for 2.2.3.
I'm curious what you think of it. The system is quite old,
indeed (but we have even older among our customer base, as
they are not very much inclined to investing in hardware!).
It is much used, though.
Regards,
Roger

Can you attach the config.log for 2.2.3? I'm now a little
curious as to how dynamic linking ever worked on this system
(which is fairly old, right?)

Hm. mwh is right - it seems like HAVE_DYNAMIC_LOADING isn't
being defined. Could you also attach the files configure.log
and pyconfig.h from the 2.3 build?

It looks like the module 'imp' is messed up. That's strange.

Ugh. I don't have access to any SCO boxes to debug this.
Could you rebuild Python 2.2 on the same platform and attach
the output (as you did for 2.3). Obviously something's
changed in how we invoke the dynamic linker or some such.
