Summary: Shelve slow after 7/8000 key

Initial Comment:
After about 8.000 insertion shelve became really, really 
slow.
This happens only with 2.3.3 #51 on Windows, not with 
2.2 and with 2.3 on Linux.
I try with writeback True or False: same problem.
Help! :-))

Skip Montanaro discovered that whichdb repors bsddb185 
with python 2.2 and dbhash with 2.3.3.
So why is it so slow after few thousand keys?
