Initial Comment:
Documentation for kill(pid, sig) says
    "Kill the process pid with signal sig."
This is a bit misleading. It would be better to say
    "Send the process pid the signal sig."
since the kill system call does not necessarily kill
anything.
In fact, kill rarely does kill anything.

Just a peeve... :-)
