The precompiled windows binary installer doesn't seem
to provide a  _socket module
eg.
>>> import urllib
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?
  File "c:\Python24\Lib\urllib.py", line 26, in ?
    import socket
  File "c:\Python24\Lib\socket.py", line 45, in ?
    import _socket
ImportError: No module named _socket

This bears some resemblance to [ 1298709 ]
