Summary: Including python-codecs codecs in standard distribution?
Initial Comment:
Are there any plans to include the python-codecs in the
standard distribution? They are Chinese and Japanese
encodings, very useful if you live in China or Japan,
which quite a few people do :) -- Imagine having to
download ASCII encoding separately.
What's stopping the inclusion, if anything?

CJK codecs was introduced in Python 2.4 IIRC. I assume that satisfies
this request.

We should continue to discuss this. There are good technical and
political reasons for re-evaluating whether to include Asian codecs in a
batteries included Python distribution.
I suggest python-dev and/or i18n-sig @python.org.

The size of the code, and its correctness is stopping
inclusion of these codecs.
