Turns out that find_file() always returns None for the shared mods:

*** module _struct.c in ['/usr/local/src/egenix-build-environment/Python-2.7rc2-ucs2/Modules', '/usr/local/src/egenix-build-environment/Python-2.7rc2-ucs2/Mac/Modules']: find_file returned None
*** Extension _struct: ext.sources=['_struct.c']
