I am working on trying to debug where the problem comes from, but meanwhile, I wanted to report here that this introduced a difference between Python 3.7.6 and Python 3.7.7

I still did not test Python 3.8 but I suppose that it has the same problem.

No, I am compiling with:

CFLAGS+= -qmaxmem=-1
OBJECT_MODE=64
CONFIGURE_ARGS=--enable-shared --with-system-ffi --without-computed-gotos ac_cv_rshift_extends_sign=no
