What do you mean? That python was linked to readline,
or that it now no longer is?

I'm not talking about the readline module - I'm talking
about the interpreter binary proper. It linked to
readline for no reason at all, but only because
AC_CHECK_LIB not only checks, but also adds to LIBS.
