I know there's a smiley there, but that's still part of my point.  For
newcomers it's very difficult to start because the learning curve is
so large and keeps increasing.  There are all these indirections.  The
more we can simplify the process and make it easier to contribute the
more likely it will be for people to contribute.

It's the same thing with making the bug/patch process easier and
updating the web/doc.  The easier it is to contribute, the more likely
we are to get contributions.

Except other than Tim making a section for Windows at one point, I'm
not sure anyone else has ever modified or viewed the page.  Ok, I just
looked, Anthony touched it a few times too. :-)
