But you can put the tag/create the branch in any revision you want...

In fact, my approach would be to create a 2.6 branch after 2.6b3, and
leave the trunk for 2.7 work.

No, I am not voluntering as release manager O:-). If freezing the tree
24 hours is needed, that's fine.
