I'll be offline for two weeks, enjoying a sunny (hopfully!) holiday in
southern Italy. I uploaded the docs I had for augmented assignment; not
terribly much I'm afraid :P We had some trouble at work over the weekend,
which cost me most of the time I thought I had to finish some of this up.
(For the developers among you that, like me, do a bit of sysadmining on the
side: one of our nameservers was hacked, either through password-guessing
(unlikely), sniffing (unlikely), a hole in ssh (1.2.26, possible but
unlikely) or a hole in named (BIND 8.2.2-P5, very unlikely). There was a
copy of the named binary in /tmp under an obscure filename, which leads us
to believe it was the latter -- which scares the shit out of me personally,
as anything before P3 was proven to be insecure, and the entire sane world
and their dog runs P5. Possibly it was 'just' a bug in Linux/RedHat, though.
Cleaning up after scriptkiddies, a great way to spend your weekend before
your vacation, let me tell you! :P)
I'll be back on the 19th, plenty of time left to do beta testing after that
:)
