You can try to check out by symbolic release tag from the CVS.  I
think it goes back to 0.9.8 and maybe even before.  Building may be
problematic: I think the oldest Makefiles got lost, and some files
were renamed -- CVS logs leave no trails of renaming.

For what purpose, may I ask?
