Maybe not, but I haven't seen anything obviously better
proposed yet.
I've no idea what else to to for relative paths. A leading dot
doesn't seem all that bad to me for that. I concede that
a trailing dot would look rather odd, though.
The absolute-path case could be spelled using a special name
for the root of the package hierarchy, but then we need to
think of a name that's sufficiently unlikely as a real module
name.
I don't think I like the idea of re-using the word "global",
although I'm not sure.
