I'm using project files, so users of the free compiler would have
to write their makefiles themselves.

It might be possible to write a generator that produces a makefile
automatically from the VC.NET project files; contributions
are welcome. Maintaining both project files and makefiles in parallel
is not feasible; dropping the project files is also unacceptable.
