*always* take the public source repository (if available). Downloading
the latest source release doesn't cross their mind. I'm not talking
about regular school projects. I talk about Joe Random CS student who
wants to do some fun project in his spare time.

By using the DVCS, they can trust that they will be able to track
changes - IIUC, that is supposedly the *major* advantage.

Of course, many of them also have personal laptops these days on
which they do stuff, at least here in Germany, where they can
install whatever it takes.
