Which is 3 lines of code plus a closing brace.  The OP didn't build<br>
their own Python, and the source from which it was compiled wasn't<br>
available to them.  But they did say that when they got into gdb and<br>
single-stepped, it was looping through the same three lines of code,<br>
in obmalloc.c, over & over.  Which is 100% consistent with the loop<br>
you identified as being "the hot spot".<br>
