Hello,

I have some ideas about why we should switch as a species to a common official language.

Why would a country switch to a language like English?
a. To be better protected in case of war by being a better ally of other countries that speak English.
b. To allow it's people to live, work, and study more easily in countries where English is spoken.
c. To have many times more economic partnerships with English speaking countries.
d. To collaborate more easily on international scientific projects.
e. To allow it's people to have access to books, scientific articles, and TV shows created in the English language. This would increase the level of education in the country.
f. To increase the number of computer users. Switching to English will also improve the computer skills people have.
g. To increase it's economic development.
h. To have access to the culture of English speaking countries.
i. To have more tourists visit their country.
j. To have more large international companies come to their country.
k. To be one of the first countries to switch to a common international language and set a model for other countries.

What would happen if every country in the world would switch to a language like English?
a. There would be more and bigger scientific projects because more people would be able to participate.
b. Everyone in the world would have access to all the books, music, movies, TV shows created by 7+ billion people directly in their language.
c. It would be easier for everyone to live, study, and work anywhere in the world.
d. We would have as a species the possibility to create a global organization for standardizing and creating the best courses on every subject in one language. These courses could then be distributed for free to everyone.
e. e. There would be fewer wars. Because of this it would be less probable to destroy ourselves as a species.
f. The chances for conflicts to start around the world would be greately diminished.
g. Writers would write better books because they would be motivated to spend more time on them because their audience would now be 7+ billion people.

Why switch to English and not another language?
a. English is already spoken by more than 1 billion people.
b. All the countries where English is spoken natively are very developed and this makes it more attractive for other countries to switch to the new language.
c. English is a mature language that eveolved over thousands of years (as opposed to constructed languages like Volapük).
d. Computer languages are in English.
e. English is a language people like after they learn it.

How to switch from one official language to another?
a. Pass a law that requires all citizens of the country to take a 6 months free English course. At a rate of teaching 20% of the people of the country per year in 5 years all the people of the country would be speaking fluent English. Give people an exam and a degree at the end of the course.
b. Pass a law that requires at least half of the courses in schools to be thought in English.
c. English speaking countries should send thousands of teachers to other countries.

Regards,
Alexandr
