[python-events] Please add the following event: 16 Oct

DL Neil NZPUG at etelligence.info
Fri Oct 11 18:59:00 EDT 2024

With all due-apologies: a last-minute change to previously-advised
event-information, due to speaker (un-)availability.

Meeting is now entitled: "From virtual envs to my reality"

Details

Join us for a meander through the maze of Python development-tools, from
project set-up to packaging. Four of us will each present on one of the
tools he uses—whether it’s pyenv, venv, poetry, or uv.

Through personal experience, we will hear a little of:

How the tool works and why it was chosen for their project
Shortcomings and potential pitfalls to watch for
Navigating the maze of Python packaging and project organisation in
the real world

This isn’t a product show-down, but rather a chance to grasp the nuances
of each tool and hear how different choices (and different combinations
of these tools) align within the Python ecosystem—and the specific needs
in your projects. We can also expect to hear how thoughts, and maybe
product-loyalties, change over time.

Whether you're a seasoned Pythonista or just starting to grapple with
virtual environments, there’s something here for you!

The four Kiwi speakers are:

Ben Allen is a keen member of the Online Group and the Python
Professionals SIG. He will be beaming in from Japan.
Richard Shea is a long-time member of the Auckland Branch with even
longer IT experience.
Menno Finlay-Smits also brings a wealth of experience. He leads PyNZ's
Christchurch Branch and thus also 'overseas'.
and dn? He's also 'overseas' (if you count Auckland's Harbor Bridge),
but the least said about this Online Group Leader, the better
