If this is only aimed at developers, then those developers why isn't,

PYTHONPATH="versionA:${PYTHONPATH}" python run_tests.py
PYTHONPATH="versionB:${PYTHONPATH}" python run_tests.py

, completely and utterly sufficient for the job.
