I  think what you are missing is that Python is a dynamic language -- there
are any number of things that are simply not known at run-time. Sure, you
can come up with simple examples that it seems obvious are an error, but
there is no clear place to draw a line.

So the "right" thing to do is use linters and unit tests and test coverage
tools.

_maybe_ there should be some of these in the stdlib, but so far, it's
seemed better to have an active ecosystem of competing systems.
