Fortunately, it's a counting option already. In Modules/main.c:
case 'v':
Py_VerboseFlag++;
break;
...
case 'V':
version++;
break;
...
if (version) {
printf("Python %s\n", PY_VERSION);
return 0;
}
So change is easy:
