Jason, that weirdness is actually a deep part of Python's philsophy. The
language is very protocol driven. It's not just the built-in functions that
use protocols; the language itself is built around them. For example, `for
... in ...` syntax loops over any iterable object. You can like it or leave
it, but this will never change.
