Thanks Ilya, it works perfectly with pyasn1 0.1.4rc4.

As for the weird behaviour I was seeing with Perl (and Python now the
pyasn1 issue is fixed) it was caused by a lack of read access to the
entryUUID and entryCSN attributes on the OpenLDAP server....
