Why is CGI module so complicated?

Why not just a factory function in the cgi module?


import cgi

form = cgi.getFields() # Returns a dictionary version of FormStorage()


To me, this would be intuitive... You wouldn't have to go through a
seemingly unnecessary class on the way.
