MySQLdb in compiled form

I am trying to use Python with MySQL on a Win32 platform. I have downloaded
MySQLdb ver 0.2 but have been unable to use it so far. I don't have MSVC++,
which I take it is needed to compile the _mysqldb.c code.

Would it be possible (legal) for me to get a compiled file from someone and
just use that on my system? MySQL is running fine so I don't think there
are any problems there. Would it work to compile the code under Linux
(running on Intel) and then copy it over to the Win98 side?

Any help will be appreciated.
