experience with Python, C, C++, Perl, HTML, SQL and/or Java in a
production environment; experience with client-server architectures,
common UNIX tools, and structured and object-oriented design; and
excellent communication skills.
Desired Experience: Understanding of DNA & protein sequence
databases/analysis tools, molecular biology, genetics and/or genomics;
familiarity with Sun workstations, Solaris OS, X Windows and/or RDBMS.
Job#: CB-03-9901-W
Position: Scientific Database Administrator, Bioinformatics
You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of
biological databases, both developed in-house and imported. You will
provide specification, evaluation, procurement, and installation of
database management systems and related tools, and have interactions
with software vendors. You will work with the systems administration
staff on underlying hardware needs and interact with internal user
groups consisting of scientific, programming, and administrative staff.

Requirements: BS/MS with two years of database experience in a
production environment with one or more UNIX-based RDBMSs, preferably
Oracle. Experience/familiarity with the following: relational database

genomics; DNA and protein sequence databases. Job#: CB-04-9901-W
Position: Computational Biologist, Bioinformatics
You will use available algorithms and software-and where
necessary-develop new tools for phylogenetic analysis of sequences for
the same gene collected from a number of sources; identification of
homologous genes among human and model organisms; detection and
interpretation of function of uncharacterized sequences; structure
prediction and modeling for functional analysis; and data mining among a
growing number of databases to help automate the linking of information
from multiple sources. You will explore models for representing,
comparing, and querying gene networks. In addition, you will work with
software tool developers and experimentalists on analysis and
interpretation of DNA and protein sequences and related data sets, and
on design of experiments. Flexibility and teamwork orientation in an
expanding, dynamic requirements environment is essential.
Requirements: Ph.D. or MS in either Computer Science or Molecular
Biology with experience in the complementary discipline; programming
skills (Python, C, C++, Java, or Perl); and excellent communication
skills. Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, or genomics; DNA and
protein sequence databases and the common tools for analyzing and
manipulating sequence data; algorithmic underpinnings for DNA and
protein sequence comparison and pattern recognition; structural biology
and structure/function prediction.
Desired Experience: Experience/familiarity with database management
systems; UNIX environment; structured and object oriented software
design; tool development and implementation in a production-scale data
