This was forwarded to me. Anyone interested in coming face 2 face
with Tom and Brent? :-) Don't ask me why I don't go, I'm far from
being a Python expert (I'm trying, though).

Long ago there was a shell/perl/awk bakeoff invited talk at a USENIX
conference somewhere or other. It was fun for all involved, and was very
well received. We're looking to do something similar at the LISA conference
in Seattle. Unfortunately we've been utterly unable to secure a Python
advocate with a system administration background for the panel.

It would be on thursday 11th november. The idea would be to have a
moderator (that would be me) and three advocates, and a slightly rowdy
audience. We'd ask each advocate to nominate in advance some simple
sysadmin task which shows their language to its advantage, and also to do
the solutions to the other two's tasks... then there'd be some room for
(presubmitted) tasks from the audience to be solved on the fly.

Do you know Python? Are you intending to attend LISA? Would you be willing
to do this? We have Tom Christiansen for perl and Brent Welch for Tcl/Tk.
Would you still be willing to do this? :-) Think of the fame and the
tourist trade.

Please contact me directly, no need to bother the list. Please include a
short statement about why you'd be good at this, since I don't know Python
very well and will have to choose the advocate. Then, if you're not chosen,
you should come to the bakeoff and heckle...

Greg.
