Being a rather newbie myself here`s what I`ve found so far :

1. Lots of stuff is available from www.python.org. See documentation.
2. Buy a book as soon as possible. Search for python at www.amazon.com.
Read the reviews.
3. Get into reading newsgroups, ie. comp.lang.python
