This site - <http://www.bagley.org/~doug/shootout/> - shows Python being
outperformed by Perl in a number of categories, sometimes by a fair margin.

Not that I care too much about this myself - I'd rather write a pretty
program in Python that works than an ugly, fast one in Perl which probably
doesn't . Still, I wonder if we could suggest some tweaks to his Python
scripts which might improve Python's score.
