Actually, I think it would be a Big Mistake(tm*) or at least a Not Very
Smart Thing(c*) to block the list for non-subscribers. It would require
people to subscribe before they can ask their questions, and it would be
nasty for people who use more than one email address, or post with a
different one than they receive on. I manage a couple of closed lists,
company-lists for employees only, and even with less than 100 subscribers it
gets annoying as hell.

Much, much better to be open, and to deal with spam when it arrives -- by
examining the Recieved: lines and complaining to the origin of the spam,
plus possible relayers inbetween.
