Why not use Python, be successful with Python, and have a Java-style hype
monster too?

We need a Hype Monster! Otherwise how can we make everyone admit that
Python is by far the best language in every conceivable category and no
other languages have any reason to exist except maybe C but only for writing
extensions and maybe English too for mailing lists and stuff and that way
Microsoft which will die because of Open Source and Netscape will have to
get rid of Java and use Python instead and everyone will be very happy.

I think Python has a good chance at World Domination. True, it is competing
with firmly entrenched standards, but standards change, and it's foolish to
underestimate the roll of education. If students use Python in class, they
will continue to use it in the real world. It is becoming easier every day
to compete with the giants, both in languages and operating systems (look
out, Microsoft) because people have finally learned how to write portable
open architecture software. Eventually the best stuff will float to the
top, though this was not always the case.
