Thank you, this was the bug. Indeed, the error message was very
confusing. I hope that error messages will be better in Python 1.6.
Especially for a language that is used for teaching, accurate error
messages will be crucial.

I fixed all the other bugs, too, I think. However, the network produces
a strange output - maybe it is because the amount of neurons were very
limited for that example. It was a quick hack anyway, but it was a good
way to learn Python. If anybody is interested in the (working) script,
please let me know.
