Compiling options for python

Hi,

I'm running Zope in a intra/extranet enviroinment On Debian/Gnu Linux 2.2 ,
and it seems that most time is waisted in python. I guess the cheapest way
to improve perfomance would be recompiling python with more aggressive
options. What options can be passed safely to ./configure?
It has gcc 2.95.2, which AFAIK has egcc stuff merged, so should I be able
to use pentium optimisations (Yes, I know that they are unnecessary on >Pent.
pro, but this is a vanilla pentium)?
