gtk and GdkColor and set_forground

I am having a problem with set_forground() in a clist.
the error I get back is that I am not sending the color val as a
GdkColor   but I can't figure out how to get a GdkColor val

I am new to python so it is probably something dumb I am doing

in c I would call gdk_parse_color("color name" &varname);
and that would work  but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong
