dealing with a proxy

Hi all,

how do I format my request to get an url/socket when there is a proxy in the
middle?

I can connect fine when there is no proxy, but I'm not sure what needs to be
done when there is, does the rquest need to be phrased differently, or do I
need to call some other function beforehand?

any tips?
