The continuing development of IDlE is one of the long term goals
of the CP4E project, and though it "ain't there yet", compared to
your feature list, it's already a good IDE for Python.

One very useful feature that is in place today is the Object Browser
and the dubugger steps through codejust as you describe, allowing on
the fly editing of running processes.

I use IDlE for lot's of editing unrelated to Python too!
