Wonder whether you mean:
>>> "a\b\c"
'a\010\\c'

Assume you mean:
>>> import string
>>> s = r"a\b\c"
>>> t = string.replace(s,"\\","\\\\")
>>> t
'a\\\\b\\\\c'
>>> print t
a\\b\\c
