Most self-proclaimed "Visual C++" texts are actually mostly
about MFC (and not as good as texts whose title _tell_ the
readers they're about MFC:-).  Sorry, can't suggest a good
text on VC++ itself (beyond what's on MSDN) as opposed to
MFC, ATL, &c.  Try asking on the appropriate microsoft.public.*
newsgroups, specifying you're not looking for instruction on
MFC, ATL, etc, but rather on the workings of the compiler,
debugger, IDE, and so on...
