Audiorecording of wave-files

Hello,

I'm wondering if there's a module(s) for audio-recording (actually under
Linux, but platform-independant solution is preferred) and a module for
the wave audio-format.
If there's currently no module available I would use ecasound as
external
program. Any other suggestions?
