Audioop: How do I load info into it?

Okay, I'll be short and sweet. The documentation says that audioop takes
audio data in signed integer samples. How do I create these signed
integer samples? Either a pointer to the documentation or a piece of
example code would be great.

What I'm planning to do is create a fractal sound generator with a
slight difference. Rather than create different types of noise, I hope
to create one that can mimic natural sounds. Any case, thank you for
your help on audioop.
