Hi Aahz,

From README.Debian.gz in Debian 2.2's python-base package:

  - Threading support enabled.

So, "the Python included on shipping Linux distributions" is (at least
partially) incorrect.

But I'd wager there are more distributions which do that (RH relies
heavily on Python, so they might as well).
