Build problems on IRIX (TRIX)

Hello,

i have problems building the shared object files on IRIX computer, the
build failes with the following error message (example shows the
attempt to build fpectl.so - but it fails on all shared object files):

  ld -shared -all build/temp.irix64-6.5-2.1/fpectlmodule.o -L/usr/local/lib -o build/lib.irix64-6.5-2.1/fpectl.so
  ld32: ERROR   48 : Cannot access registry file ./so_locations (No locks available) - ignored.
  ld32: FATAL   51 : Can't assign virtual addresses for fpectl.so of size 10000 within specified range.  Please check your registry file ./so_locations.
  WARNING: building of extension "fpectl" failed: command 'ld' failed with exit status 4

I don't know if this matters, but the computer in question is running
TRIX (Trusted IRIX) which is a "security hardened" version of IRIX.

I'd be most grateful for any suggestions.
