Python Interface To PostgreSQL ??

I am trying to install PostgreSQL (onto my LINUX system) and have python 
interface to the databases I create with it.

I haven't been able to compile with the python interface (./configure 
--with-python).

I think this fails because I installed Python 2.1 as an RPM therefore the 
Makefile is not present.

It mentioned that I need to make the python interface manually.

Can someone help out here in a guide to how I achieve this ?
