why is python slow on Solaris?

sparc cpus aren't very fast, even if you put them inside big
boxes. if you look www.spec.org you'll see that an enterprise 3500
with a ultrasparc2 at 400 has a specint score of 212.
for comparison a 700mhz dell p3 gets 307.
