For a start, and maybe sufficiency, look at the changes made
in the intervening releases:
For example, the section "What's new in release 1.6?" at

... and "What's New in Python 2.0?" at
http://www.python.org/2.0/ or, even better,
look at Andrew Kuchling's detailed descriptions
for 2.0 through 2.2 at http://www.amk.ca/python
under the rubrik "What's New in Python".
